Davos Private Jet Catering: World Economic Forum and Ski Season Guide via Zurich (LSZH / ZRH)

Davos private jet catering follows two rhythms. In January, the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting brings heads of state, chief executives and their teams to this small mountain town in the Grisons. Through the rest of the winter, Davos and neighbouring Klosters welcome skiers, families and guests of the grand hotels. Both rhythms rely on the same nearby airports and both deserve catering prepared with Swiss precision.

Davos has no airport of its own. Most business aircraft use Zurich (LSZH / ZRH), around two hours away by road or a short helicopter transfer, while St. Moritz-Samedan (LSZS / SMV) in the Engadin and St. Gallen-Altenrhein (LSZR / ACH) on Lake Constance are popular alternatives, and some missions route through Geneva (LSGG / GVA). Global Diners prepares VVIP inflight catering in our kitchens across more than 2,500 airports, with delivery coordinated with your FBO or handler at each of them.

Choosing the airport for a Davos trip

The right airport depends on the aircraft, the schedule and the onward transfer. Each option has its own advantages, and our team prepares catering at all of them with the same menu and the same ordering routine.

Airport

Transfer to Davos

Catering notes

Zurich (LSZH / ZRH)

Around two hours by road, or by helicopter

All aircraft sizes; the natural choice for long-range jets

St. Moritz-Samedan (LSZS / SMV)

Mountain road through the Engadin, or by helicopter

High-altitude airport, ideal for smaller jets and Engadin stays

St. Gallen-Altenrhein (LSZR / ACH)

Road via the Rhine valley

Compact airport on Lake Constance, calm and convenient

Geneva (LSGG / GVA)

Longer road transfer or a connecting flight

Useful when the itinerary continues to western Switzerland

During Forum week, ground and air transfers are busy and itineraries can change quickly. Our specialised team keeps each change in the same email thread and adapts the catering accordingly, as described in our article on last-minute private jet catering for flight crews.

World Economic Forum week: catering for working flights

Forum flights are rarely leisure flights. Delegations prepare speeches on the way in, chief executives review meetings, and the return leg is often the first quiet moment in several days. The best menus support that rhythm: light, nourishing dishes that keep passengers sharp, served without fuss, and something comforting for the journey home.

  • Inbound: fresh salads, grilled fish or poultry, wholegrain breads, fruit and plenty of hydration for a focused arrival.

  • Working breakfasts: Bircher muesli, yoghurts, eggs, Swiss breads and viennoiserie for early departures.

  • Return leg: warming soups, a hot main course such as veal with rösti, cheese and Swiss chocolate to close a demanding week.

  • Delegations: halal, kosher and alcohol-free menus, clear allergen labels and discreet presentation.

Many Forum delegations include government and institutional passengers. Our article on government and diplomatic flight catering explains how we prepare these flights with care and discretion.

In Forum week, the cabin is often the only quiet room in the passenger's day. The menu should respect that.

Timing deserves particular care during the Forum. Many delegations arrive on the Sunday or Monday and leave as soon as their last session ends, so outbound and return catering are often ordered together. Sharing both legs in the first request allows our team to plan the return menu from the start, with crew meals for any standby days in between. Clear labels, separately packed sauces and reheating guidance on every hot dish mean the crew can prepare a full service quickly, even when passengers board straight from the conference hall. For aircraft waiting several days at Zurich, our team can also prepare fresh crew catering for each day of the stay, timed with your FBO or handler.

Graubünden flavours on board

The Grisons have a mountain cuisine that travels surprisingly well. Bündnerfleisch, the air-dried beef of the region, is delicate and elegant on a tasting board. Capuns, chard parcels filled with spätzli dough and dried meat, and pizokel dumplings bring warmth to a winter menu. The Engadiner Nusstorte, a caramel and walnut tart, keeps beautifully and makes a lovely gift for passengers and crew.

Swiss cheeses, from Appenzeller and Gruyère to mountain cheeses from the Alps, Zurich-style veal with rösti and Swiss chocolate complete the picture. Wines from the Bündner Herrschaft, a small and celebrated Pinot Noir area near Maienfeld, are offered subject to local rules, alongside Swiss mineral waters and apple juices. Our guide to wine pairing for private jet catering suggests pairings.

The ski season around Davos and Klosters

Once the Forum has left, Davos returns to its role as one of the great winter sport resorts in the Alps. Families arrive for Christmas and New Year, groups come for the February holidays, and Klosters welcomes regular guests who return every season. St. Moritz, across the mountains in the Engadin, hosts White Turf on the frozen lake in February and many guests combine both valleys in one stay.

Ski-season menus differ from Forum menus. Children's meals, family sharing boards, hot chocolate and festive desserts take the lead, and the return flight after a week on the slopes calls for generous, comforting dishes. Our guide to winter destinations for private jet catering covers more mountain resorts.

Christmas and New Year in the Alps at Zurich (LSZH / ZRH): Mid-December to early January

The festive season sends families and groups to chalets and grand hotels in Graubünden, and Zurich handles many of the arrivals heading to the Engadin and Prättigau. The busiest days fall just before Christmas and around New Year. Book festive catering several days early, including children's meals and holiday desserts such as Christmas biscuits and chocolate. Ask for warming soups and hot items in thermal carriers for return flights after a day on the slopes.

Forum, festival and race dates in Switzerland change each year, so confirm current timings with our team when placing an order.

Local flavours for flights from Zurich (LSZH / ZRH)

Zurich's signature dish is Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, thin strips of veal in a cream and mushroom sauce served with rösti, a hot meal that reheats well in the galley. Bircher muesli was created in Zurich and is the ideal breakfast for the cabin, made with oats, grated apple, yoghurt and nuts. Small Luxemburgerli macarons, Zuger Kirschtorte cherry cake from nearby Zug, and Tirggel, thin honey biscuits pressed with traditional pictures, are local sweet options. From the mountains come Bündnerfleisch, the air-dried beef of Graubünden, and cheeses such as Appenzeller, Emmentaler and Gruyère, which make an excellent Swiss board with Zopf bread. Swiss chocolate and pralines are an obvious finishing touch. Lake Zurich vineyards produce Räuschling, a crisp white grape grown in few other places, and Pinot Noir from the Zurich wine country. Non-alcoholic choices include Swiss apple juice, Rivella and Swiss mineral waters. Our kitchens prepare each order, and pick-up from Zurich restaurants, confectioners and chocolatiers is available on request.

Also nearby: St. Moritz-Samedan (LSZS / SMV)

Engadin Airport at Samedan is one of the highest airports in Europe, set in a wide valley a few minutes from St. Moritz, Pontresina and Celerina. Guests flying in for Davos often enjoy combining both valleys, with a stay in the Engadin before or after the Forum. Catering at Samedan follows the same Global Diners menu and ordering routine as Zurich, with delivery coordinated with the airport's handling team at the time agreed for your departure, and Engadiner Nusstorte, Bündnerfleisch and mountain cheeses add a delicious regional touch.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport is closest to Davos for private jets?

Davos has no airport of its own. Zurich (LSZH / ZRH) is the main choice for all aircraft sizes, while St. Moritz-Samedan (LSZS / SMV) and St. Gallen-Altenrhein (LSZR / ACH) are popular alternatives. Global Diners prepares catering at each of them.

How early should I order catering for World Economic Forum week?

We recommend ordering a little earlier than the usual 24 hours during Forum week, and sharing passenger numbers and dietary needs as early as possible. Every change can be sent in the same email thread to order@globaldiners.com.

Can I have Graubünden specialities on board?

Yes. Bündnerfleisch, capuns, Engadiner Nusstorte, Swiss cheeses and chocolate can be included, and Swiss wines are offered subject to local rules. Halal, kosher and alcohol-free menus are also available.

What is the Global Diners client portal?

The portal, coming very soon, is designed to bring the Global Diners menu, order requests, confirmations and documents into one space for crew, operations and finance. Until it opens, all orders go through order@globaldiners.com.

Can I order catering at St. Gallen-Altenrhein (LSZR / ACH) for the Bregenz Festival?

Yes. St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport (LSZR / ACH) is a short drive from Bregenz across the Austrian border, and we cater flights for festival guests through our kitchens. Elegant cold platters, smoked lake fish and fine desserts suit late departures after the lake-stage performances. Order several days ahead in July and August.

Can I get St. Gallen bratwurst or Appenzeller specialities for a flight from Altenrhein (LSZR / ACH)?

Yes. For departures from St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport (LSZR / ACH), regional specialities are available on request: St. Gallen bratwurst served hot in thermal carriers, Appenzeller cheese, Mostbröckli dried beef and Biber gingerbread. They make an easy, distinctly local addition to a menu, and pair well with Rhine valley wines (subject to local rules) or apple juice from Thurgau orchards.
