Sustainable Private Jet Catering: Seasonal Sourcing, Smart Ordering and SAF in Business Aviation
Sustainable private jet catering is part of a wider movement across business aviation. Operators are adopting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), airports are investing in cleaner ground infrastructure, and passengers increasingly ask how the food served on board is sourced, prepared and packed.
At Global Diners we prepare VVIP inflight catering in our own kitchens in Paris, Nice and Madrid, and extend the same standard to more than 2,500 airports through our kitchens. This article looks at where business aviation stands on SAF and explains our practical approach to catering: local seasonal sourcing, accurate ordering to reduce waste and recyclable packaging wherever possible.

Business aviation as a testing ground for cleaner flight
Business aviation represents a small share of global aviation emissions, yet it attracts a great deal of attention. Its structure also makes it well suited to early adoption: fleets are smaller, decisions are made close to the aircraft, and operators work directly with their passengers. New fuels, technologies and operating practices can therefore be introduced quickly and demonstrated in real operations.
Manufacturers, operators and FBOs across Europe have embraced this role. SAF is offered at a growing number of business aviation airports, aircraft are increasingly certified to fly on blended fuel, and ground operations are moving towards electric equipment and ground power. Catering is one more part of the turnaround where thoughtful choices make a visible difference.
Sustainable aviation fuel in brief
SAF is a jet fuel produced from renewable or waste feedstocks such as used cooking oil, agricultural residues and, in newer pathways, captured carbon and green hydrogen. Today's approved SAF is a drop-in fuel: it is blended with conventional Jet A-1, currently up to 50 percent, and used in existing aircraft and airport fuel systems without modification.
Depending on the feedstock and production pathway, SAF can reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to around 80 percent compared with fossil jet fuel. In the European Union, the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation sets a rising minimum share of SAF supplied at EU airports:
2025: at least 2 percent SAF
2030: at least 6 percent SAF, including a first share of synthetic fuels
2035: at least 20 percent SAF
2050: at least 70 percent SAF
Fuel supply and SAF certificates are arranged by operators with their fuel suppliers. Global Diners focuses on what we know best: the food on board.
Our approach to sustainable private jet catering
Sustainability in catering starts long before the aircraft is loaded. It is shaped by what goes into the menu, how much is ordered and how everything is packed. Our approach rests on three simple principles, applied in our own kitchens and shared with our kitchens we work with.
Local, seasonal sourcing
Our kitchens in Paris (LFPB / LBG), Nice (LFMN / NCE) and Madrid (LEMD / MAD) favour local, seasonal produce wherever the menu allows. Mediterranean vegetables and fish in Nice, French cheeses and pastries in Paris, Spanish olive oil and fruit in Madrid: seasonal ingredients travel shorter distances and simply taste better at altitude.
City (ICAO / IATA) | Kitchen | Delivery | Seasonal inspiration |
Paris (LFPB / LBG) | Own kitchen | Planeside | French cheeses, pastries, market vegetables |
Nice (LFMN / NCE) | Own kitchen | Planeside | Mediterranean fish, citrus, herbs |
Madrid (LEMD / MAD) | Own kitchen | At the FBO | Spanish olive oil, fruit, charcuterie |
Other network airports | Our kitchens | Depends on the airport | Local seasonal produce where available |
Accurate ordering to reduce waste
The most effective way to reduce food waste on a private jet is to order the right quantity. Sharing the exact passenger count, the flight duration and the services planned on board allows our team to recommend portions that match the mission, so the galley carries what the cabin will enjoy.
Recyclable packaging where possible
We pack orders for safe handling in a galley, with clear labelling and allergen information on every item. Wherever possible we choose recyclable or reusable packaging, and we keep packaging to what is needed to protect the food and the cold chain.

Practical tips for flight departments and crews
Crews and schedulers play an important role in sustainable catering. A few simple habits make a real difference across a season of flying:
Order around 24 hours before delivery so kitchens can plan seasonal ingredients and quantities
Share the confirmed passenger count and update it by email if it changes
Indicate the services planned on board, for example breakfast only or a full dinner service
Choose dishes that suit the flight length; shorter sectors call for lighter selections
Let our team know about dietary requirements early so every item is prepared for a guest who will enjoy it
Menus that travel well
Choosing dishes that suit the flight is another simple lever. Cold starters, composed salads and desserts keep beautifully in the galley chiller, while hot dishes are best planned for the moment they will actually be served. When the order reflects the real rhythm of the flight, less food returns from the cabin and every course arrives at its best.
Our team is happy to suggest selections from the Global Diners menu card that match the sector length and the number of guests, whether it is a short hop from Paris to Geneva or a long-range departure from Nice to the Gulf. Recommendations are shared with every quote, so crews can adjust quantities with confidence before confirming.
The most sustainable meal on board is the one that is ordered in the right quantity, prepared with seasonal ingredients and enjoyed to the last bite.

One standard across our network
In Paris and Nice we deliver planeside; in Madrid we deliver at the FBO. Across the rest of our network, orders for airports such as Geneva (LSGG / GVA), London (EGGW / LTN) and Dubai (OMDB / DXB) are prepared by our kitchens and coordinated by the same team, through the same email address. Our article on global aviation catering coordination explains how this works around the world.
Every kitchen works to HACCP principles with an unbroken cold chain and allergen labelling on every item, so care for the environment always goes hand in hand with care for passengers.
Premium service and responsibility, side by side
Business aviation has shown that premium service and environmental progress can move forward together. SAF is becoming part of everyday operations, airports are modernising their ground infrastructure, and catering is following the same path through thoughtful sourcing, sensible quantities and responsible packaging.
For passengers, the result is a cabin experience that feels as generous as ever, built on fresh seasonal food. For operators, it is one more way to show clients that every part of the flight has been considered.
