Private Jet Catering Munich: Oktoberfest Season and Munich (EDDM / MUC) Crew Guide
Private jet catering in Munich follows the rhythm of a city that loves to celebrate. Each autumn, the Oktoberfest turns the Theresienwiese into the most famous folk festival in the world, and business jets arrive at Munich (EDDM / MUC) and Oberpfaffenhofen (EDMO / OBF) from across Europe, the Gulf and North America. Yet Munich is far more than one festival: it is a capital of engineering, insurance, technology and trade fairs, a gateway to the Bavarian Alps and one of the most elegant cities in Germany.
Global Diners prepares VVIP inflight catering in our own kitchens in Paris, Nice and Madrid and in our kitchens across more than 2,500 airports, including Munich. This crew guide focuses on the Oktoberfest season and the weeks around it: which airport suits your flight, how Bavarian flavours translate to the cabin, how to plan departures on the busiest festival days and what crews appreciate for their own meals during a Munich stopover.

Munich or Oberpfaffenhofen?
Most business jets use Munich International, north-east of the city, with its general aviation terminal and full range of handling services. Oberpfaffenhofen, south-west of Munich near Lake Starnberg, is a smaller airfield with a distinctly private atmosphere, popular with owners who stay in the lake districts or the southern suburbs. Both work beautifully for festival guests; the choice depends on where passengers will spend their time.
Airport | Best for | Global Diners catering approach |
Munich (EDDM / MUC) | International arrivals, long-range jets, large groups | Full meal services and crew meals, with delivery coordinated with your FBO or handler |
Oberpfaffenhofen (EDMO / OBF) | Lake Starnberg villas, southern suburbs, discreet arrivals | Compact trays and sharing boards sized for midsize jets |
Nuremberg (EDDN / NUE) | Franconian business trips and the Christmas market season | Working lunches and light snack trays for short sectors |
Whichever airport you choose, the Global Diners menu and the ordering routine stay exactly the same. One email to order@globaldiners.com covers every leg, including onward sectors to Vienna (LOWW / VIE), Zurich (LSZH / ZRH) or our own kitchen at Paris Le Bourget (LFPB / LBG).
The Oktoberfest calendar
The Oktoberfest traditionally opens on a Saturday in the second half of September and runs for around sixteen to eighteen days, ending on the first Sunday of October, or on German Unity Day, 3 October, when that date falls just after. The opening weekend with the parade of the landlords and breweries, the costume parade on the first Sunday and the closing weekend draw the largest crowds and the most aircraft. Midweek days are calmer and popular with corporate hospitality groups.
Moment | Typical flights | Menu ideas from Global Diners |
Opening weekend | Guests arriving Friday and Saturday morning | Light arrival trays: fruit, salads, smoked salmon, so guests save their appetite |
Midweek | Corporate hospitality groups, same-day returns | Generous return meals: roast chicken, potato salad, cheese boards and desserts |
Closing weekend | Departures on Sunday evening and Monday morning | Restorative menus: clear soups, grilled fish, fresh juices and fruit |
Late November to 24 December | Christmas market weekends in Munich and Nuremberg | Festive trays with Lebkuchen, stollen and warming dishes |
For the festival weeks, we recommend ordering a little earlier than the usual 24 hours and confirming passenger numbers as soon as they are known. A confirmed order lets our team plan each delivery calmly with your FBO or handler, even on the mornings when many aircraft depart together.
Bavarian flavours, refined for the cabin
Bavarian cooking is hearty, seasonal and generous. For the cabin, we keep its character and lighten the portions, so passengers enjoy the flavours of Munich without feeling heavy after a long day at the festival.
Brezn and Obatzda: soft pretzels with the famous spiced cheese spread, perfect for a sharing board.
Weisswurst breakfast: the traditional Munich white sausage with sweet mustard, served before noon as custom requires.
Hendl: roast chicken with herbs, served warm with a crisp potato and cucumber salad.
Alpine cheese and charcuterie: Bergkäse, smoked ham and rye bread for a relaxed return flight.
Lake fish: char and trout from the Bavarian lakes, smoked or gently poached and served chilled.
Desserts: Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce, Dampfnudeln, Bavarian cream and seasonal plum cake.
International classics from the Global Diners menu card, including caviar, smoked salmon, cheese and pastries, sit naturally beside these dishes. Champagne and German wines from Franconia, the Rhine and the Mosel can be included subject to local rules, alongside alcohol-free menus, fresh apple spritzers and elderflower lemonade. Halal and kosher menus are available on request, and every item carries allergen labelling.

In Munich, the finest cabin menu carries a little of the festival on board: a warm pretzel, a slice of strudel and the calm of a perfectly planned departure.
Crew meals during a Munich stopover

Festival weeks often mean longer stopovers for crews: passengers stay two or three nights, and the crew waits in the city before the return sector. Crew meals deserve the same attention as passenger catering. We recommend balanced menus with grilled fish or chicken, vegetables, whole grains and fresh fruit, packed and labelled individually so each crew member can eat at the right moment of the duty day.

Beyond the festival: Munich all year round
Outside the Oktoberfest, Munich welcomes business aviation throughout the year. The Munich Security Conference brings delegations each February, Messe München hosts major international trade fairs, the Alps draw skiers in winter and hikers in summer, and the Christmas markets turn Munich and Nuremberg (EDDN / NUE) into postcard cities in December. Our menus adapt to each season: warming dishes and festive pastries in winter, salads and lake fish in summer, and generous return meals after long days at the trade fair halls.
Many itineraries continue from Munich to Vienna, Zurich, Salzburg or the Italian lakes. Our guide to winter destinations by private jet covers the Alpine season in more detail.

The world's largest trade fair for construction machinery fills the Riem exhibition grounds and draws executives from every continent for a week. Hearty Bavarian options such as Leberkäse rolls or pretzel sandwiches, combined with lighter salads and fruit, suit long exhibition days and the journey home.

Dining and shopping near Munich (EDDM / MUC)
The Hofbräuhaus traces its brewing back to 1589, while Dallmayr, a delicatessen founded in 1700, is a destination for coffee, chocolates and fine foods. Maximilianstraße and Theatinerstraße hold the luxury fashion houses, the Fünf Höfe arcades mix design and art, and Kaufingerstraße is the main shopping street.
Local flavours for flights from Munich (EDDM / MUC)
A Brotzeit platter – cold cuts, Leberkäse, radishes, pickles, cheese and rye bread – is the traditional Bavarian snack and works on any sector length. Obatzda, a spiced spread of ripe Camembert, butter and paprika, is served with soft pretzels (Brezn), which are best collected fresh on the morning of departure. Weißwurst, the white veal sausage eaten with sweet mustard and pretzel, is traditionally a morning dish and can be provided for a Bavarian-style breakfast that is simple to reheat. Schweinsbraten, roast pork with crackling and bread dumplings, and Schweinshaxe are table dishes better enjoyed on the ground, though roast pork slices served cold are a good alternative. Alpine cheeses such as Bergkäse from the Allgäu add a strong cheese course. For dessert, Apfelstrudel, Dampfnudeln and Bavarian cream are traditional, and Munich's bakeries produce excellent seasonal cakes, including plum cake in late summer. Restaurant pick-up in Munich is available on request.
Also on the Global Diners network: Oberpfaffenhofen (EDMO / OBF)
Oberpfaffenhofen is a special-purpose airport at Weßling, south-west of Munich, used mainly by business aviation, aerospace companies and research flights; the German Aerospace Center operates a major site here. Flights link to Munich's corporate headquarters, trade fairs and high-level conferences, and to the lake villas and golf clubs of the Five Lakes region. The Bavarian Alps and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are reachable by road for ski and summer trips.
Lake Starnberg and the Ammersee, a short drive from the airport, offer sailing, swimming, paddle-boat trips and lakeside walks, with steamers linking the villages. Golfers have several fine courses in the Five Lakes region. Munich's attractions, from the English Garden and the Residenz to the Olympiapark and BMW Welt, are within easy reach.
