Private jet catering in the Maldives: airports, transfers and inflight dining guide

Private jet catering in the Maldives is part of the pleasure of arriving in one of the most beautiful island nations on earth. Twenty-six atolls, more than a thousand coral islands and some of the world's most celebrated resorts lie scattered across the Indian Ocean, and a growing number of guests reach them by business jet. Whether your flight departs from Nice (LFMN / NCE), Paris (LFPB / LBG) or Dubai (OMDB / DXB), the menu on board sets the tone for the holiday ahead.

Global Diners prepares VVIP inflight catering from its own production kitchens in Paris, Nice and Madrid and from kitchens serving more than 2,500 airports worldwide. This guide covers the five Maldivian airports most relevant to business aviation, how guests continue to their resorts by seaplane, speedboat or domestic flight, and how to plan catering for the long outbound flight and the return leg from Malé.

Long-range business jet, private jet flights to the Maldives – Malé (VRMM / MLE)
Long-range business jet. Global Diners supports private jet flights to the Maldives from Malé (VRMM / MLE), with delivery coordinated with your FBO or handler.

Why the Maldives is a favourite private jet destination

The Maldives combines privacy, warm water all year and an exceptional collection of island resorts, many of them occupying an entire island. For business aviation, the country has invested steadily in its airports: a new runway and seaplane terminal at Malé, a new passenger terminal there in 2025, a longer runway and larger apron at Maafaru in the north, and a fully redeveloped airport at Hanimaadhoo. The result is a choice of gateways that brings guests closer to their atoll and shortens the final transfer.

The flight itself is long and rewarding. The great-circle distance from Nice (LFMN / NCE) to Malé (VRMM / MLE) is roughly 4,200 nautical miles, and from Paris (LFPB / LBG) about 4,450 nautical miles. Ultra-long-range aircraft fly these routes non-stop in around nine to ten hours, depending on winds; other aircraft plan a technical stop in the Gulf. From Dubai (OMDB / DXB), Malé is about 1,650 nautical miles away, a comfortable four-hour flight.

The 5 key Maldives airports for business jets

The Maldives has more than a dozen airports, but most domestic airfields have short runways designed for turboprops and are not ports of entry. Five airports stand out for private jets: they are international airports with customs, and their runways suit business aircraft. Runway figures below come from the published aerodrome data (Acukwik, the airport operators and the Maldivian authorities); your operator will always confirm performance for the specific aircraft.

Malé – Velana International (VRMM / MLE)

Malé (VRMM / MLE) sits on Hulhulé Island in Kaafu (North Malé) Atoll, linked to the capital by the Sinamalé Bridge. It is the country's main gateway, operated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). Its runway 18/36 measures 3,400 m by 60 m with an asphalt surface, built to Code F standard so it welcomes everything from light jets to the largest airliners. The airport also hosts the largest seaplane operation in the world, with a dedicated seaplane terminal opened in October 2022, and a new passenger terminal opened in 2025. For most resorts in the central atolls, Malé is the natural arrival point.

Maafaru International (VRDA / NMF)

Maafaru (VRDA / NMF) in Noonu Atoll opened in December 2019 and has become a favourite of private aviation. Its runway 06/24 was extended to 2,850 m (45 m wide, asphalt), with the work completed in July 2025, and the apron was enlarged to park around thirty business jets in peak season. The airport has a VIP lounge and sits close to some of the most exclusive resorts in Noonu, as well as Raa and Baa atolls, which are a short seaplane or speedboat hop away. Maafaru should not be confused with Dhaalu (VRMU / DDD), a separate domestic airfield further south.

Gan International (VRMG / GAN)

Gan (VRMG / GAN) is the southern gateway, on Gan Island in Addu Atoll, just south of the equator. Its history goes back to the former Royal Air Force station, and today its concrete runway 10/28 (about 2,960 m by 45 m) is one of the longest in the country and accepts wide-body aircraft. Gan serves the resorts of Addu and the southern atolls, with a private lounge for business aviation passengers, and resorts in Addu are reached by a short drive or boat ride.

Hanimaadhoo International (VRMH / HAQ)

Hanimaadhoo (VRMH / HAQ) in Haa Dhaalu Atoll is the northern gateway of the Maldives. After a full redevelopment, a new terminal opened in October 2025 and the redeveloped airport was inaugurated in November 2025. Its runway 03/21 measures about 2,465 m by 45 m (asphalt) and accepts Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 sized aircraft, so business jets of every size are welcome. It is an ideal arrival point for the resorts of the northernmost atolls, Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu.

Villa International Maamigili (VRMV / VAM)

Maamigili (VRMV / VAM) in Alif Dhaal (South Ari) Atoll is a privately developed international airport with customs. Its runway 09/27 is about 1,800 m by 30 m (asphalt), well suited to light and mid-size business jets. It places guests within easy reach of the resorts of South Ari Atoll, famous for its marine life, and is linked to Malé by domestic flights.

The table below summarises the five airports for private jet planning. Runway lengths are rounded; operators check the latest aerodrome data before each flight.

Many other airfields, such as Dharavandhoo (VRMD / DRV) in Baa Atoll, Kooddoo (VRMO / GKK) in Gaafu Alifu Atoll or Dhaalu (VRMU / DDD), have runways of roughly 1,200 to 1,800 m and are used by domestic turboprops. They are part of the onward journey rather than the arrival point for a business jet.

Seaplane and domestic transfers to the resorts

For most guests, the jet lands at one of the five gateways and the last part of the journey happens on the water or in a small aircraft. Understanding the transfer helps time both the flight and the catering.

  • Seaplane: the iconic transfer from Malé (VRMM / MLE), operated from the seaplane terminal on the lagoon side of the airport. Seaplanes fly in daylight, so arrivals are often planned for the morning.

  • Speedboat: the quickest option for resorts in North and South Malé atolls, and a pleasant short ride from Gan (VRMG / GAN) or Maafaru (VRDA / NMF) to nearby islands.

  • Domestic flight: turboprop connections to airports such as Dharavandhoo (VRMD / DRV) or Kooddoo (VRMO / GKK), followed by a short boat transfer.

  • Direct gateway: choosing Maafaru, Gan, Hanimaadhoo or Maamigili places the jet closest to the resort, so the final transfer is short.

Because seaplanes fly in daylight, a typical overnight departure from Europe lands in the morning. That is why a well-timed breakfast service before landing matters so much: guests arrive refreshed and ready to step straight onto the seaplane.

Catering the long flight from Nice, Paris and Dubai

A long sector to the Indian Ocean usually spans several services. The Global Diners menu card is designed to be combined across courses, and each request receives a dedicated quote. The menu follows the passengers' body clock as much as the clock on the wall.

From Nice (LFMN / NCE) and Paris (LFPB / LBG)

Departures from the Côte d'Azur and Le Bourget are served by our own kitchens, which deliver planeside, directly to the aircraft, ready for the crew to stow before boarding. Guests spending a few days on the Riviera first can read our guide to private jet catering in Nice and our overview of Paris and the French Riviera. A typical sequence for a nine-to-ten-hour flight looks like this:

  1. After take-off: canapés, Mediterranean mezze and chilled drinks.

  2. Main service: a plated dinner such as grilled fish, roast poultry or a vegetarian main, with seasonal sides and dessert.

  3. Through the night: a snack selection of fruit, cheese, sandwiches and pastries for guests who wake mid-flight.

  4. Before landing: breakfast with viennoiseries, fresh fruit, yoghurt, eggs and freshly brewed coffee or tea.

  5. Crew meals: separate, clearly labelled meals so the flight deck and cabin crew are looked after throughout.

From Dubai (OMDB / DXB) and Gulf technical stops

From Dubai (OMDB / DXB), the four-hour flight suits a single elegant service: a light lunch or dinner with fresh salads, grilled dishes and fruit. Aircraft that stop in the Gulf on the way from Europe, at Dubai or Doha (OTHH / DOH), can take a fresh second uplift through our kitchens, ideal for families and larger groups. Our Dubai private jet catering guide explains the options there.

On a long-range flight, the best catering is the one the cabin crew can serve beautifully at hour eight just as easily as at hour one.

Our kitchens work to HACCP principles, keep every dish in the cold chain from production to delivery, and label every item with its allergens. Sharing the aircraft type and galley equipment helps our team choose dish formats and packaging that suit the galley; our guide to private jet galleys explains how each galley shapes the menu.

Return-leg catering from Malé and the other gateways

The return flight is just as long as the outbound sector and deserves the same attention. Global Diners coordinates return-leg catering at Malé (VRMM / MLE) through our local kitchen, and at Gan (VRMG / GAN) and the other gateways according to the airport. Delivery arrangements depend on each airport and are confirmed with your quote.

Ordering the return menu together with the outbound menu is the simplest approach: passenger preferences, allergens and favourite dishes are already known, and the menu can echo the islands with tropical fruit, fresh fish and light, aromatic dishes that feel like a final taste of the holiday.

Dietary requirements, families and crews

Long flights with families and guests of several nationalities often bring a range of preferences. Share them with your request and our team builds the menu around them:

  • every passenger allergy and intolerance;

  • dietary styles such as vegetarian, vegan, halal or gluten-free;

  • children on board, so simple and familiar dishes are included;

  • religious or cultural observances that shape meal timing;

  • crew numbers, so crew meals are prepared separately.

Timing your order

We recommend ordering 24 hours before delivery. For a Maldives trip, sending the outbound and return requests together, with the aircraft registration, airport, departure time, passenger count and dietary notes, gives our team everything needed to prepare both legs. Changes are welcome by email at any time, and our article on last-minute private jet catering explains how short-notice requests are handled.

The Maldives Event Calendar for Private Jet Catering at Malé (VRMM / MLE)

Velana International sits on Hulhulé island beside Malé, and almost every private jet that lands here is met by a speedboat or seaplane transfer to a resort atoll. That makes timing the real pressure point: catering has to be ready before guests switch from aircraft to boat, and return-leg orders often need to be placed while passengers are still out on their islands. The dry northeast monsoon from December to April, the year-end holidays and Chinese New Year bring the heaviest ramp and handler workload. Order two to three days ahead in those weeks, confirm guest numbers before departure from the resort, agree a delivery window with your handler, and choose chilled, sealed formats that hold well in tropical heat.

Northeast monsoon dry season at Malé (VRMM / MLE): December to April

Calm seas, low humidity and clear skies make these months the classic Maldives high season. Private flights rise steadily from Europe, the Middle East, India and Russia, and handler teams juggle many quick turns linked to seaplane timetables, which operate in daylight only. Plan catering around the transfer schedule rather than the flight alone. Fresh salads, cold cuts, poke-style bowls and fruit juices hold well, and ordering 48 hours ahead gives the selected kitchen time to source premium fish.

Holiday periods, lunar dates and seaplane schedules shift from one year to the next, so please check the timing of your trip with our team when you order.

Things to do around Malé (VRMM / MLE)

The Maldives is built around the water. Snorkelling straight from a villa deck, diving channels and reefs, and sunset dolphin cruises are the everyday highlights. Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, is known for manta ray gatherings at Hanifaru Bay in the southwest monsoon, while South Ari Atoll is famous for year-round whale shark sightings. Surfers head to the breaks of North Malé Atoll, and many resorts offer private sandbank picnics, big-game fishing and spa days. A seaplane flight over the atolls is an unforgettable attraction in its own right.

Culture and heritage near Malé (VRMM / MLE)

Malé, one of the most densely built capitals in the world, holds most of the country's heritage. The Old Friday Mosque, Hukuru Miskiy, dates from the 17th century and is carved from coral stone. Sultan Park and the National Museum present royal artefacts and pre-Islamic relics. A walk through the fish market and the local produce market shows daily life, from tuna landings to bundles of betel leaf and dried fish.

FBOs at Malé (VRMM / MLE): the business aviation terminals here include Island Aviation Services, Maldives Airports Co. Ltd and Travel 2 Maldives Pvt Ltd. Our team coordinates every delivery with the FBO or handler you choose.

Also nearby: Gan (VRMG / GAN)

Gan International Airport occupies the island of Gan in Addu Atoll, the southernmost atoll of the Maldives, just south of the Equator. Built as a Royal Air Force station and used by the RAF until 1976, it now serves Addu City, the country's second-largest urban area, whose islands are joined by a causeway road. Private traffic is modest and mostly leisure: guests of the atoll's resorts, divers coming for manta rays and the British Loyalty wreck, and travellers who prefer a quieter alternative to the central atolls. Technical stops on long Indian Ocean routes and occasional official and medical flights complete the profile.
