Private Jet Catering Honolulu (PHNL / HNL) and the Hawaiian Islands

Private jet catering in Honolulu brings the spirit of aloha into the cabin. Honolulu (PHNL / HNL) is the gateway to Oʻahu and the hub of the Hawaiian Islands, welcoming families on winter holidays, golfers, surfers, executives and long-range aircraft crossing the Pacific between North America, Asia and Australia. From there, short hops lead to Maui (PHOG / OGG), Kona (PHKO / KOA) and Līhuʻe (PHLI / LIH), each with its own resorts, landscapes and flavours.

Global Diners prepares inflight catering in our own kitchens in Paris, Nice and Madrid and in our kitchens across more than 2,500 airports, including the Hawaiian Islands, where delivery is coordinated with your FBO or handler. This guide explores Hawaiian flavours that travel well, how to cater long transpacific sectors, the island-hopping rhythm of Maui, Kona and Kauaʻi, and the simple steps that keep every order calm.

Hawaiian flavours on board

Hawaiian cuisine is a blend of Polynesian traditions and the cooking of the many communities who settled on the islands, from Japan and China to Portugal, Korea and the Philippines. The result is fresh, generous and colourful food that suits cabin service beautifully. Ahi poke, cubes of raw tuna dressed with shoyu, sesame and sweet onion, is the island classic, best served early in the flight and packed on ice. Lomi lomi salmon, a fresh salad of salted salmon, tomato and onion, makes a light starter.

  • Starters: ahi poke, lomi lomi salmon, seaweed salad and fresh coconut.

  • Main courses: kalua pork, huli huli chicken, grilled mahi-mahi or opah with macadamia crust, and teriyaki salmon.

  • Comfort dishes: loco moco, plate-lunch style rice and macaroni salad, and musubi for crew snacks.

  • Sweets: malasadas, haupia coconut pudding, lilikoʻi (passion fruit) tarts and macadamia cookies.

  • Drinks: Kona coffee, fresh pineapple and guava juices, and coconut water.

Maui pineapple, sweet Maui onions, Big Island avocados, Kona coffee and Hawaiian vanilla appear across the islands' menus. For guests who prefer a more classic service, the Global Diners menu adds caviar, smoked salmon, fine cheeses and French pastries, and wine or champagne can be added subject to local rules. Every item carries allergen labelling, and halal, kosher and plant-based menus are available on request.

Long transpacific sectors

Honolulu is one of the great crossroads of long-range business aviation. Flights to Japan, Australia and Southeast Asia often last many hours, and the catering plan becomes a sequence rather than a single meal. Our team prepares a main course for the first service, a lighter snack for the middle of the flight and a breakfast or brunch before landing, with reheating guidance for every hot dish and labels for each service.

Cold dishes such as poke and sashimi are best enjoyed early in the flight, while cooked proteins, rice dishes, soups in thermal carriers and fruit plates suit the later services. Our article on catering by flight duration explains how to balance a long sector, and the guide to crew catering on layovers covers the crew's own meals.

Island hopping: Maui, Kona and Kauaʻi

Many visitors combine Oʻahu with a neighbour island. Maui draws families and golfers to Wailea and Kāʻanapali, whale watchers in winter and early risers to the summit of Haleakalā. The Kona coast of the Big Island is known for its coffee farms, resorts and deep-sea fishing, while Kauaʻi, the Garden Isle, offers the cliffs of the Nāpali Coast and the quiet beauty of Hanalei Bay. Each airport has its own rhythm, and inter-island flights are short enough for a light, fresh service.

Winter, from mid-December to March, is the liveliest season, with the Christmas holidays, the Sony Open in January and whale season around Maui. Summer brings families on school holidays. For these periods, we recommend sharing the schedule two or three days ahead, so every ingredient is planned with care.

From the West Coast to the islands

Most business jet flights to Hawaii start on the US West Coast, and the order can cover both directions. Our guide to private jet catering at Van Nuys explains how to order from Van Nuys (KVNY / VNY), and the West Coast guide covers Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco. One email to order@globaldiners.com can include the outbound flight, the inter-island hops and the return, keeping passenger preferences consistent throughout.

  1. Email order@globaldiners.com with the registration, airport, date, delivery time and passenger count.

  2. Share the full itinerary, including inter-island legs and any long transpacific sector.

  3. Note dietary needs, allergies and preferences such as poke, plant-based or children's menus.

  4. Order 24 hours ahead as standard, and two or three days ahead in winter and for long sectors.

  5. Receive your dedicated quote and written confirmation from our specialised team.

The Global Diners client portal is coming very soon. It is designed to bring the Global Diners menu, order requests, confirmations and documents into one space for crew, operations and finance. Until it opens, every request goes through order@globaldiners.com.

Major Honolulu and Oʻahu Events and Your Aircraft Catering at Honolulu (PHNL / HNL)

Honolulu is both a destination and a transpacific technical stop, so its private ramp handles holiday travellers, golfers and surfers alongside aircraft refuelling between North America, Asia and Australia. The busiest weeks are the Christmas and New Year holidays and January, when the Sony Open and the North Shore surf season overlap with winter escapes from the mainland. Island ingredients are planned with care, so for peak periods send your order 48 to 72 hours ahead instead of the usual 24, confirm numbers early and agree delivery timing with your FBO or handler. Fresh poke, tropical fruit, grilled fish and local pastries suit cabin service, along with hot meals for long overwater sectors.

Sony Open in Hawaii at Honolulu (PHNL / HNL): January

The PGA Tour's first full-field event of the calendar year is played at Waialae Country Club in the Kahala district of Honolulu. Players, sponsors and corporate guests arrive from the mainland and Asia, many combining the event with a winter holiday. Order 48 hours ahead for Sunday-evening departures, and ask for island-inspired menus such as ahi poke, grilled mahi-mahi, Hawaiian sweet bread and tropical fruit, all available on request. Crew meals can be added too.

Tournament, festival and race dates on Oʻahu shift from year to year, so it is best to check the current schedule with our team when ordering.

Things to do around Honolulu (PHNL / HNL)

Waikīkī Beach and Diamond Head crater are Honolulu's best-known sights, with a hiking trail to the crater rim for views over the city and ocean. Hanauma Bay, a protected marine reserve east of town, is a popular snorkelling spot, while Kailua and Lanikai on the windward side have calm turquoise water. The North Shore is famous for big winter surf and quieter summer swimming. Pearl Harbor is close to the airport, and hikes such as Mānoa Falls lead through rainforest valleys. Golf, sunset sailing cruises and outrigger canoe rides complete the island's offer.

Culture and heritage near Honolulu (PHNL / HNL)

ʻIolani Palace, in downtown Honolulu, was the residence of Hawaii's last monarchs and is the only royal palace in the United States. The Bishop Museum holds the largest collection of Hawaiian and Pacific cultural artefacts. Pearl Harbor National Memorial includes the USS Arizona Memorial, and the Honolulu Museum of Art has strong Asian and Hawaiian collections. The Kamehameha statue stands opposite the palace in front of Aliʻiōlani Hale.

Also nearby: Maui (PHOG / OGG)

Kahului Airport is the main airport on Maui, Hawaii's second-largest island. Business jet flights arrive from the US West Coast, Honolulu and occasionally Asia, bringing guests to the resort areas of Wailea and Makena in the south and Kapalua and Kāʻanapali in the west, as well as private estates upcountry and along the north shore. Golf, family holidays, whale watching and trips along the Road to Hāna or up to Haleakalā are the main draws. Traffic is strongest in winter and over the holidays, with steady demand through spring and summer.

Sunrise at the summit of Haleakalā, at over 3,000 m, is Maui's signature experience and requires an advance reservation from the national park. The Road to Hāna winds past waterfalls, bamboo forests and black-sand beaches. Snorkelling trips to the Molokini crater leave from Mā'alaea and Kīhei. Wailea and Kā'anapali have long golden beaches, while Kapalua and Wailea have championship golf. In winter, whale-watching is a must, and helicopter tours offer views over the West Maui Mountains and the Haleakalā crater. Upcountry, the lavender farm and winery in Kula make a gentle afternoon after the summit drive, and the 'Īao Valley offers short walks.

Yes. Global Diners prepares catering at Maui (PHOG / OGG), Kona (PHKO / KOA) and Līhuʻe (PHLI / LIH), and one order can cover every leg of an island-hopping itinerary.

Which Hawaiian dishes travel best?

Poke and lomi lomi salmon are lovely early in the flight, while kalua pork, huli huli chicken, grilled fish with macadamia crust and teriyaki dishes reheat beautifully. Malasadas and haupia make delightful desserts.

In Hawaii, delivery is coordinated with your FBO or handler. Planeside delivery by our own kitchens is offered in Paris (LFPB / LBG) and Nice (LFMN / NCE).

Can you provision catering for a long transpacific leg departing Honolulu (PHNL / HNL)?

Yes. At Daniel K. Inouye International (PHNL / HNL), we can plan multi-service catering for long Pacific crossings: a main meal after take-off, a lighter snack mid-flight and breakfast before arrival. Dishes are chosen to hold well over many hours, such as bento boxes, grilled proteins and fruit plates. Delivery is coordinated with your FBO or handler.

Is fresh poke available for business jet flights from Honolulu?

Yes. For departures from Honolulu (PHNL / HNL), fresh ahi poke can be prepared on request and packed on ice, ideally for consumption early in the flight. We can pair it with rice, seaweed salad and tropical fruit. For longer sectors, cooked options such as teriyaki salmon or chicken can be added so there is a stable choice later in the journey.
