Sports Team Charter Catering: Feeding Athletes and Staff on Large-Cabin Jets
Sports team charter catering is a discipline of its own. When a professional team, its coaches and staff board a large-cabin jet after a game, the meal is part of the recovery plan, not just a service. Athletes need the right balance of protein, carbohydrates and hydration at the right moment, staff need a good meal after a long day, and every tray has to match the nutrition plan prepared by the team.
Global Diners prepares VVIP inflight catering in our own kitchens in Paris, Nice and Madrid and in our kitchens across more than 2,500 airports, including Miami (KMIA / MIA) and Phoenix (KPHX / PHX). This guide explains how we plan catering for sports teams on large-cabin jets: working with team nutritionists, pre-game and post-game menus, labelling by player, quantities for large groups and the timing that makes a road trip run smoothly.

Working with the team nutritionist
Every professional team has its own approach to nutrition, and our team follows it. The starting point is the nutrition plan shared by the team's performance staff: target portions, preferred proteins and carbohydrates, recovery snacks, hydration and any individual requirements. From there, our specialised team builds a menu for each trip and keeps it consistent across every city on the schedule.
Recovery focus: lean proteins, complex carbohydrates and vegetables in generous portions after the game.
Individual plans: players with specific requirements receive trays labelled by name.
Allergens and diets: every item carries allergen labelling, with gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, halal and kosher options.
Hydration: water, electrolyte drinks, coconut water and fresh juices as specified by the staff.
Consistency: the same standards and familiar dishes from city to city, so athletes know what to expect.
Our approach follows HACCP principles and a careful cold chain from kitchen to aircraft, and sauces and dressings are packed separately so each plate stays fresh until it is served.
Pre-game, post-game and staff menus
A road trip has different moments, and each one calls for a different menu. The table below shows how our team typically structures catering for a professional team on a large-cabin jet.
Moment | What the team needs | Global Diners preparation |
Outbound flight before the game | Light, easy-to-digest meals | Grilled chicken, rice and pasta bowls, fruit, yoghurt |
Post-game flight | Recovery meals in generous portions | Lean proteins, potatoes or rice, vegetables, recovery snacks |
Coaches and staff | A complete, satisfying dinner | Hot main courses, salads, desserts, coffee and tea |
Late-night snacks | Something light before landing | Sandwiches, wraps, fruit, nuts and protein bars |
Morning departures | A balanced breakfast | Eggs, oats, smoothies, pastries and fresh fruit |
Menus can be served as individual trays, shared buffets in the galley or a combination of both, depending on the cabin layout and the preferences of the team.

For a team on the road, the flight home is the first step of preparing for the next game.
Timing, quantities and labelling
Team charters often leave soon after the final whistle, so catering is planned around the game rather than a fixed departure time. Our team agrees a delivery window with the FBO in advance and keeps in touch with the team's travel coordinator, so meals are on board and ready when the players arrive. For large groups, we recommend sharing the final passenger list and individual requirements 24 to 48 hours before departure.
Email order@globaldiners.com with the aircraft registration, airport, date, expected departure window and passenger count.
Attach the team's nutrition plan and the list of individual requirements.
Add dietary needs, allergies and VIP preferences for owners and guests in the same message.
Receive your dedicated quote and a written confirmation from our specialised team.
Our team coordinates the delivery window with your FBO or handler and labels every tray by name or by service.
Clear labels make the cabin crew's work much easier on a full aircraft: each tray carries the player's name or the service it belongs to, along with allergen information. Our article on VIP cabin crew catering coordination gives more ideas on service flow.
Owners, sponsors and guests on board
Many team flights also carry owners, sponsors and invited guests, who expect the same experience as on any VVIP flight. Our team prepares a separate menu for the front cabin, with dishes from the Global Diners menu card such as caviar, sushi, premium beef and fine pastries. Wine and champagne are offered subject to local rules and the team's own policy, and elegant alcohol-free options are always available.
Season-long partnerships across the country

A season means many cities and many airports. From Van Nuys (KVNY / VNY) to Teterboro (KTEB / TEB), our team prepares catering with the same Global Diners standards, so the menu feels familiar wherever the team plays. For European tours and pre-season trips, we also cater at airports such as London Luton (EGGW / LTN). Our guide to global aviation catering coordination explains how one contact can cover a whole schedule, and our article on catering weight and flight efficiency is useful for large cabins.
The Global Diners client portal is coming very soon. It is designed to bring the Global Diners menu, order requests, confirmations and documents into one space for crew, operations and finance. Until it opens, every request goes through order@globaldiners.com.

Art Basel Miami Beach and Miami Art Week at Miami (KMIA / MIA): Early December
The international art fair turns Miami into the centre of the collecting world for a week, with dozens of satellite fairs and gallery dinners. Collectors, advisers and gallerists arrive from Europe, New York and Latin America, and many long-range aircraft use Miami International. Elegant cold canapés, ceviche, sushi and refined platters suit the mood, and restaurant pick-up on request is best arranged as early as the itinerary allows.
Festival and holiday dates change from year to year, so confirm the latest schedule with our team when you send your request.
Things to do around Miami (KMIA / MIA)
Miami is built around water. Everglades National Park, west of the city, offers airboat rides and wildlife viewing among mangroves and sawgrass. In town, Wynwood Walls showcases large-scale street art, the Design District combines architecture and fashion, and Bayfront Park hosts concerts. Golfers have championship courses in Doral and Key Biscayne, and anglers can charter boats for deep-sea fishing in the Gulf Stream.
Culture and heritage near Miami (KMIA / MIA)
Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District holds hundreds of pastel buildings from the 1930s and 1940s. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a Mediterranean-style villa built in the 1910s, sits on the bay in Coconut Grove. The Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Frost Science Museum share a waterfront park downtown, and Little Havana's Calle Ocho keeps alive the Cuban heritage of the city, with cigar rollers, domino players and music.
Also on the Global Diners network: Phoenix (KPHX / PHX)
Phoenix Sky Harbor is the main airport for the Phoenix metropolitan area and sits just east of downtown Phoenix, with easy access to Scottsdale, Tempe and Paradise Valley. Business jet flights bring executives in semiconductors, finance, real estate and healthcare, as well as many winter visitors enjoying the desert sun. The airport is a good choice for passengers whose business is downtown or in Tempe.
Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak offer challenging hikes with views over the Valley, best tackled early in the morning. South Mountain Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, with extensive trails. The Desert Botanical Garden showcases cacti and desert plants from around the world. Day trips to Sedona's red rocks and the Grand Canyon are popular, and hot-air balloon flights over the Sonoran Desert run in the cooler months.

Here are the business aviation terminals (FBOs) at each airport mentioned above. Our team coordinates every catering delivery with the FBO or handler you choose, and our own kitchens deliver planeside at Paris (LFPB / LBG) and Nice (LFMN / NCE).
