Private Jet Catering Mauritius (FIMP / MRU): Indian Ocean Island Departures

Private jet catering in Mauritius is mostly about saying goodbye beautifully. After days of lagoons, golf and island dining, passengers leave Mauritius (FIMP / MRU) on long flights to Europe, the Gulf, Asia or South Africa, and the catering becomes the last chapter of the holiday: a taste of Creole, Indian and French flavours, followed by a calm, well-paced service all the way home.

Global Diners prepares inflight catering in our kitchens across more than 2,500 airports, including Mauritius and Réunion (FMEE / RUN). This guide focuses on Indian Ocean departures: how to plan catering for a long sector, which island flavours travel well, how the seasons shape the calendar and how to combine Mauritius with Réunion, Johannesburg and the Gulf.

Mauritius (FIMP / MRU): lagoons, mountains and the start of many long journeys home.

An island of long departures

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International lies in the south-east of the island, close to Mahébourg and Blue Bay, and serves resorts all around the coast, from Le Morne and Bel Ombre in the south-west to Grand Baie in the north. Most business aircraft leaving Mauritius are heading somewhere far away, so a single departure often includes several moments of service: a welcome drink after take-off, a full meal, light snacks during the rest period and a breakfast or brunch before landing.

Planning these moments together, rather than ordering a single tray, is the secret to a relaxed long-haul flight. It also helps the crew organise galley space and reheating around the flight plan.

Mauritian flavours for the journey home

Mauritian cooking blends Creole, Indian, Chinese and French traditions, and a few island touches make a lovely farewell. Dholl puri, the soft flatbread filled with split peas, and gâteaux piments, small chilli fritters, are favourite snacks. Fish vindaye, chicken curry, rougaille and octopus salad bring the island's character to the main course, and palm heart salad is a refined classic of Mauritian tables.

The best farewell to an island is a taste of it, served gently somewhere over the ocean.

For dessert, coconut cakes, tropical fruit and vanilla-scented sweets work beautifully, and alouda, the island's milky drink with basil seeds, is a charming alcohol-free choice. Rum or wine can be added subject to local rules. Halal, kosher and alcohol-free menus are available, and every item is labelled for allergens.

The Mauritius calendar

Mauritius welcomes travellers all year, with a few moments that call for early planning. The European winter, from November to April, is the island's high season, and Christmas and New Year are the liveliest weeks of all. Maha Shivaratri, in February or March, sees pilgrims walk to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin. From October to April, warm waters bring big-game fishing to the west coast, while the austral winter, from June to September, is the season for kitesurfing at Le Morne, golf and hiking.

  • November to April: high season for resorts and long-haul arrivals.

  • Mid-December to early January: Christmas and New Year, the most festive period.

  • February or March: Maha Shivaratri.

  • October to April: big-game fishing off Black River.

  • June to September: trade winds, kitesurfing and golf.

During the festive season our team suggests ordering a little earlier than the usual 24 hours and confirming passenger numbers as soon as they are known.

Ordering for an Indian Ocean departure

  1. Email order@globaldiners.com with the aircraft registration, airport, date, delivery time and passenger count.

  2. Share the flight time and destination, so our team can plan every moment of service on board.

  3. List dietary needs and allergies, including halal, kosher, vegetarian or alcohol-free requirements.

  4. Order 24 hours ahead, or earlier during the Christmas and New Year period.

  5. Receive your dedicated quote and written confirmation; delivery is coordinated with your FBO or handler.

Restaurant pick-ups from the island's resorts and restaurants can be coordinated on request, which is a lovely way to take a favourite dish home.

Combining Mauritius with Réunion, Johannesburg and the Gulf

Many Indian Ocean journeys include more than one stop. Réunion, a short flight away, offers French and Creole cooking with volcanic landscapes. Johannesburg (FAOR / JNB) connects Mauritius with southern Africa, and Dubai (OMDB / DXB) is a natural stop on the way to Europe or Asia. When the journey ends in Paris, our own kitchen at Paris Le Bourget (LFPB / LBG) delivers planeside. Our guides to private jet catering in the Maldives and private jet catering in Dubai cover other favourite stops on Indian Ocean itineraries.

The Mauritius Event Year for Private Jet Catering (FIMP / MRU)

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International sits near Mahébourg on the island's south-east coast, and private jet traffic follows Mauritius's resort calendar. The European winter, and above all the Christmas and New Year fortnight, brings the densest arrivals of families and couples staying at beach resorts and villas. Religious festivals and the sport-fishing months add their own rhythm to the year. Tropical fruit platters, seafood, light Creole-inspired salads and sealed cold boxes suit the warm climate, and hot dishes in thermal carriers serve long sectors back to Europe, the Gulf or Asia.

Christmas and New Year holidays at Mauritius (FIMP / MRU): Mid-December to early January

Things to do around Mauritius (FIMP / MRU)

Mauritius is ringed by coral reefs and lagoons. Blue Bay Marine Park, close to the airport, is known for snorkelling, and boat trips run to Île aux Cerfs on the east coast. In the south-west, Le Morne Brabant rises above a wide lagoon, and Black River Gorges National Park offers forest hikes and waterfalls. The Seven Coloured Earth at Chamarel and the nearby falls are popular stops. Golf courses line the east and south coasts, and catamaran cruises, dolphin trips off Tamarin, and diving are widely available.

Culture and heritage near Mauritius (FIMP / MRU)

Mauritius has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Le Morne Cultural Landscape, a symbol of resistance to slavery, and the Aapravasi Ghat in Port Louis, which marks the arrival of indentured labourers. The Blue Penny Museum displays rare Mauritian stamps. Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Chinese places of worship stand side by side. Séga music and dance are central to Creole culture, and colonial houses such as Château de Labourdonnais recall the sugar era.

Also on the Global Diners network: Réunion (FMEE / RUN)

Roland Garros Airport at Sainte-Marie, just east of Saint-Denis, is Réunion's main airport and the island's link to Paris, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte, South Africa and the wider Indian Ocean. Private traffic includes French government and administrative flights, business trips to the prefecture and port, family travel between mainland France and the island, and leisure visitors heading to the west-coast resorts, the volcano and the mountain cirques. Long-range business jets often route through on Indian Ocean tours linking Mauritius, the Seychelles and Madagascar.

Réunion is a hiker's island, with three mountain cirques, Mafate, Salazie and Cilaos, offering trails, waterfalls and villages, and the Piton des Neiges summit. The Piton de la Fournaise volcano can be visited by road or helicopter. The west coast around Saint-Gilles and L'Hermitage has lagoon beaches, diving and surfing, while Salazie, closest to the airport, is known for waterfalls such as the Voile de la Mariée. Paragliding over Saint-Leu, canyoning and whale watching from June to October are other highlights. Much of the island's interior is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
